What Conditions Do We Treat?..

Physiotherapy can help to treat a wide range of injuries and conditions including:

Can Physiotherapy Help Me?..

Our initial physiotherapy assessment helps to identify problem areas and biomechanical imbalances in order to produce a problem list and formulate a treatment plan with our patients prior to starting treatment. A range of tests can help to locate the source of the problem and implement the appropriate treatment strategy. In many cases identifying the causes and pre-disposing factors can help to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Identifying factors such as poor posture, muscle imbalance and poor working practices, allow interventions to be made to correct them. Our physiotherapists can help to get you back to work or sport quickly by providing progressive rehabilitation exercise programmes and giving preventative advice as appropriate throughout your treatment and at discharge.

A progressive and well-planned rehabilitation programme is an essential component of each patient's treatment, aiming to restore function and return you to a healthy active life-style.

Rehabilitation consists of the use of a variety of physical therapy techniques and modalities to help you achieve your goals. Physiotherapists can give you advice on improving your posture and mobility, reducing joint stiffness and avoiding muscle weakness and wasting. A pain management programme would combine several of these therapies in order to reduce your pain.

If you are under-going surgery we are able to provide essential pre & post-operative physiotherapy for numerous orthopaedic surgical procedures.

We are experienced in the rehabilitation of patients with cervical and lumbar discectomies, spinal fusions, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery for shoulder and knee conditions, joint replacements (shoulder, hip and knee), ligament repairs and reconstruction, tendon repairs and internal fixation of fractures. Our physiotherapists are able to help with the relief of post-operative pain, scar tissue healing, restoring movement, improving muscle strength and rehabilitating  you to reach your functional goals. We maintain contact with your referring orthopaedic surgeon, providing them with a progress report and discharge report at the end of your course of treatment.

At Whitstable Physiotherapy clinic we know that the correct intervention is essential in the effective treatment of sports injuries.

Our Physiotherapists are experienced at dealing with acute and chronic sports related injuries at all levels - from the keep fit enthusiast to the international athlete. In the acute stage of a sports injury the treatment focuses on limiting the swelling and tissue damage. But if an injury has become chronic (not healed on its own), the appropriate treatment is essential to encourage the normal healing process to take place. At the end of the initial assessment you will have a diagnosis and individual treatment plan. A rehabilitation exercise programme can be designed to address the patient's individual needs for sport specific strength training, muscle balance and core stability. Quick access to the correct intervention can shorten the recovery time and allow the athlete to return to sport after complete rehabilitation. We can devise a strengthening programme to minimise the risk of further injury.
